So my website has content, a blog, portfolio, etc. etc. You probably thought I have some fancy CMS running on the back end to keep it updated. Boy did I fool you! I was in too big of a hurry to get my site launched to take the time and put it on a proper CMS system. As a result everytime I wanted to update the site I had to touch a handful of files and that began to become a real pain. I am proud to announce that I have finally taken the time to hook this site up to a CMS.

I looked a ton of different systems, some were simple content editors, some were the full-blown real deal. I wanted to learn something powerful that I could use on multiple projects. I found modx and fell in love with the system and the community around it. There were a few challenges for the non-programmer type like myself but overall it was super simple. Within one day I had the site to where I could create simple content pages, my only real struggles were getting the new site to mirror the old site exactly. I didn't want to cut any corners on my design and with a little effort modx was able to do anything that I wanted it to do.

Before if I wanted to just make a quick post, like this one, there was just too much involved and I would just wait until I had something big to post. I hope with this system I can begin to make more regular posts on the site. Keep checking back, I have good (hopefully screen-cast) post coming up soon!

Re: Looks good man. I remember you mentioning something about this a while back in a status update. I am thinking about looking into it as well. Everything looks real smooth, nice job.

Comments on your post Thanks for sharing your experience with Modx. I too shopped around for a CMS and feel Modx will work well. Unfortunately, I'm still learning it and trying to retro fit it into three of my client's site. Getting it to match up to the existing site is challenging. I'm reading what I can find on it (that's how I found your site, which is very nice) and hope to have it down soon.

Re: Thanks for your comment James. Good luck with getting your sites converted. One great thing about modx is the community around it. All my answers were answered the same day I asked the questions on the forum.

Typo Hey man, really nice site. Very inspiring. In the process of redesigning my site and stumbled across a link to your site on a blogcatalog.com post "20 Wonderful Websites Showcasing MODx CMS." Just thought you should know I think I found a typo in the "Powered by modx" page. It's in the 2nd paragraph, 4th line form the bottom "my only realy struggles." I think you meant "real."

Keep it real brother : ) Awesome site!

Thanks! It's funny you say this because I am in the same boat. I love wordpress as a CMS but I designed my portfolio site without wordpress integration. I've been looking for a CMS that's lite but flexible. I'll have to give modx a try. Thanks for blogging.
